Hunt Country happily offers full service appraisals; our appraisals include a detailed description of the piece, including weights and sizes, and photos. Appraisals are billed at $125/hour, and we can usually complete up to 5 pieces of jewelry in one hour. There is a $75 dollar minimum for appraisals.
Appraisals take up to 2 weeks; we prefer that you leave the jewelry with us so it can be measured, weighed, and photographed. A single piece can be sometimes be photographed and detailed while you wait, but only on a case by case basis. Appraisals for groups of jewelry larger than 15 pieces may take longer than two weeks.
We do offer appraisals for estates; if you are unsure what pieces warrant being included in an appraisal please make an appointment during our off hours with Claire or Carolyn. We’ll be happy to help you determine the ‘fine’ from the ‘costume’ at no charge.
Our appraisals are for current retail replacement value, as required by law. Most insurance companies will accept a receipt of purchase within one year instead of an appraisal. For Hunt Country in stock inventory, as well as commission projects in which we have provided all the materials, we include a detailed description of the piece on your invoice so it will be appropriate for insurance purposes.
If you have provided some raw materials for a commission project you can still use your receipt, but be sure to remember to include the receipt for your other materials as well, as the value of those items will not be indicated in our invoice.
Most jewelry should be re-appraised every few years to prevent under or over insuring your jewelry as the market changes. We are happy to recommend Jewelers’ Mutual as a great insurance company to work with and can provide you with some basic information about the policies if you wish.
Basic Watch Services
Hunt Country Jewelers does offer in house basic watch services including watch battery replacement and link removal.
Batteries are $15 if you drop the watch off or $20 for immediate service.
Links are $5 each to remove with a maximum of $20.
Other watch services are available on request, please contact us for more information.
Hunt Country Jewelers services all our own work in house. All watches, pearls, and non Hunt Country jewelry is sent out for repair or sizing.
We are happy to accept precious metal jewelry for send out. We are not able to accept base metals, costume jewelry, or beads. All repairs, in house or send out, take 2-3 weeks to complete; we cannot do repairs while you wait.
Estimates are difficult for repair work; sometimes the extent of the repair necessary to rehab the piece is not evident until you start working with the piece due to unforeseen metal weakness, old solder, previous repairs, etc. We will give you the best estimate we can, but we will also ask you for the maximum you are willing to invest in repairing the piece. If the piece is evaluated by the repair bench to exceed that limit, we will simply ask to have it returned.
Hunt Country Jewelers is experienced in antique and vintage jewelry restoration; when a simple repair just isn’t enough!
Through traditional methods and new technology like our laser welder, we are able to restore many antique pieces to wearability, if not like new condition. Like most things, jewelry does have a shelf life; sometimes jewelry we love is simply worn out. But if there if any life left, we can usually find and extend it.
We are happy to offer this service for precious metal jewelry only; each piece is evaluated for restoration by Ed or Logan and all restoration work is done in house. Restorations are billed by the hour; our hourly rate is $100.
